Lane, whose last residence was miles away in Redondo Beach, Calif., had struggled with addiction for years. According to TMZ, vodka and prescription pills were found at the death scene, but Vicky Oswald-Ley, Lane’s sister, placed the blame for his death squarely on alcohol in a Friday interview with Radaronline:
“Alcoholism is not something he chose. It’s something he fought everyday and it just won,” she said.
“There were no drugs, that was one thing he could not tolerate, he couldn't stand them. He did not do drugs. We don’t have the autopsy report back yet, but he was a heavy drinker and I can only guess that alcoholism has a lot to do with it.”
Lane was arrested in 2009 for driving under the influence. In 2010, he was arrested on the same charge and spent 120 days in jail.
The rocker left Warrant numerous times, first in 1993 and then more permanently in 2004. He reunited with his old bandmates one final time, in 2008.

Jani Lane’s ‘That Metal Show’ Episode Broadcast Date Moved Forward

Jani Lane
That Metal Show
When former Warrant singer Jani Lane recently taped an episode of ‘That Metal Show,’ nobody would have guessed that it would be his last major interview. Sadly, the singer was found dead at a hotel in California on Thursday (Aug. 11). As a result, the episode featuring Lane has now been bumped up to air on Aug. 27.

The show, originally scheduled to air on Oct. 1, targets the glam days of Hollywood and also features Michael Sweet from Stryper and Taime Downe from Faster Pussycat. In the early ’90s, Warrant opened for Stryper and now, about twenty years later, ‘That Metal Show’ brought the two vocalists together again. Allegedly, Warrant were never paid for that opening performance, and both Lane and Sweet have a laugh about this during the episode.
‘That Metal Show’ co-hosts Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine both made comments regarding their visit with Lane recently. Florentine remembers that Lane was “in great sprits” during the taping, while Jamieson says “I found him bright, interesting and extremely likeable. An easy guy to root for. He seemed like he had turned the corner on his personal problems, so I’m really bummed to hear of his passing.”
‘That Metal Show’ kicks off its eighth season on Aug. 20, with an appearance from Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi.

Lane left and rejoined Warrant a few times over his career, most recently parting ways with the band in 2008. He also released a solo album and a disc with an all-star side project Saints of the Underground.

Jani Lane 1964-2011: Memories of Jani Lane's Sunset Strip in Orlando

Last night many found out that Jani Lane, who once led the hair-rock band Warrant (famous for '80s hits such as "Heaven" and "Cherry Pie"), was found dead at 47.
What many might not know, was that Lane was part owner of a nightclub in downtown Orlando for a couple of years in the early '90s called Jani Lane's Sunset Strip.
I was too young to go inside, but I do remember seeing it at the corner of Orange Avenue and Pine Street. It is where CityArts Factory now stands, it was also Bar Orlando and Rat Pack's over the years.
I reached out on Twitter and Facebook for some memories from Orlando residents who went to the club back in the day and this is what they had to say. Feel free to share your own memories of the club too in the comments section.
Will Walker, co-owner of Will's Pub and the Belle Isle Yacht Pub, remembers going there when he was 21:
"I saw Jani Lane perform there multiple times."
Local musician, Rickey Dickens, has this memory:
"I got the hook, literally and deservedly so, at an open stage when you could sing with the band at Jani Lane's on Orange Ave back in 1994. I was 21, trying to sing Roadhouse Blues. I had a sore throat and my "friend" told me NOT to sip, but shoot a SIFTER of…are you ready? BRANDY. Oh yeah, it was like the Apollo in NYC where someone w/ a huge "Hook" put it around me and gently pulled me off stage. I say "gently," because they knew if they pulled too fast, I would have fell face first into the guitar player or fell off the stage all together. It was one of the THE most of embarrassing moments in my life. I had no idea I was supposed to SIP the Brandy, I knew after that night though."
@fsulaw03 on Twitter: a highlight was Warrant actually playing the club…and just b4 open Jani played acoustic set at Light Up Orlando!
@JerrySteffen on Twitter: Waterballooning drunks on the street below from that tiny balcony after a Todd Rundgren show.
Betsi Scott on Facebook has this to say about the lead singer: "I actually met Jani at Jani Lane's. I remember that he was very personable; humble and just an all-around nice guy."
I also dug into our Sentinel archives and found this article by Nancy Feigenbaum from Dec. 2, 1993, right before the club opened. Here are some excerpts:
Webster Drug Stores Inc., a family-owned business with one other location, bought the four-story building (at Orange Avenue and Pine Street) for $1.2 million. The drugstore used to be part of the Liggett chain, which has disbanded. It is leasing the second and third floors to a nightclub, Jani Lane's Sunset Strip.
"Downtown really is the hottest place right now," said Carollynn Hammersmith, spokeswoman for for Sunset Strip.
Sunset Strip, atop Liggett, is the latest of dozens of nightclubs to open in the wake of Church Street's success. It is named for Jani Lane, a former Orlando musician who hit the big time with a heavy metal band called Warrant.

Lane had a history of alcohol abuse, along with weight issues, and depression.  He appeared on VH1′s Celebrity Fit Club 2 back in 2005.
‘Cherry Pie’ will always be one of the most remembered videos of the past 25 years.  It should also be noted that Lane married the hot chick in that video, Bobbi Brown. They divorced after two  years of marriage.  They had a daughter together, Taylar Jayne Lane.

Kelly Rowland Tour 'Worries X Factor Bosses

She’s touring America with Chris Brown in the middle of the series…

12:00, Sunday, 14 August 2011
Kelly Rowland’s shock decision to go on tour midway through The X Factor has worried show bosses, if reports are to be believed.
The Destiny’s Child singer has agreed to support Chris Brown on his extensive 28-date tour of the US and Canada, which kicks off on 12 September and finishes just days before the live X Factor shows are due to begin.
According to The Mirror, show insiders are worried that the When Love Takes Over singer’s finalists will suffer without face-to-face time with their mentor. "Kelly is taking a real risk jetting off in the middle of her first series of The X Factor," a source is quoted in The Mirror. "Some of the cast and crew are worried she is not taking it seriously."
But an X Factor spokesperson has said the star would mentor her finalists from afar. "She plans to have regular Skype chats and phone calls while she's on tour," the rep explained.
On a brighter note, Kelly may have found love with songwriter Tim Weatherspoon, after they were spotted looking very happy together in Beverly Hills this week. It’s thought the pair met years ago after he worked on several tracks with Kelly’s bandmate Michelle Williams.
Kelly recently denied rumours that a Destiny's Child reunion was on the cards.

Jani Lane Dead: Warrant Plays Tribute To Former Rocker (Image)

jani laneJust days after Jani Lane died, the current members of the band Warrant paid tribute to the former frontman at a concert on Friday night in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The current group of members of the American glam band — Erik Turner, Jerry Dixon, Steven Sweet, Joey Allen, and Robert Mason — dedicated the song Heaven to him That was the same song that helped put the band on the map in 1989 much thanks to the help of Lane.
“The guy was loved and he wrote some amazing songs,” current frontman Robert Mason said about Lane. “Truth be told, I love singing them, I’ve always said that. If we do this one, can we dedicate this entire show to his memory? Let’s all do this together…can we have cigarette lighters and cellphones, can we all bond together?”
On Friday, the autopsy of Lane came back inconclusive, according to the Los Angeles coroner’s office. His cause of death will be determined after the toxicology results come in, which could take up to two months to complete.
While an official cause of death hasn’t been determined, when he was found in his Comfort Inn hotel on Thursday, a half-empty bottle of vodka was found near him along with prescription medication. The death is being treated as an “accidental overdose or possible death from natural causes,” according to TMZ.
Obi Steinman, a good friend of Lane as well as his manager, told E! that he “lost his battle over alcohol.” He also noted Lane’s well-documented past with alcohol, including hitting two different parked cars within two years and being given a three-year probation for the incident as well as being jailed 120 days when he did it again in 2010.
Steinman also talked about his past, including looking at the good times. “He was one of the great rock-and-roll frontmen and singers of all time. His music helped shape the ‘80s,” Steinman said.
Shortly after the death of Lane, Warrant issued a joint statement expressing their sadness about his death. “We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Jani’s passing,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Jani was a very important part of our lives for a long time. We will always be incredibly proud of the music we created together. He was a true talent and will be missed by all of us.”
